Genealogies of Street Names
Street names, like people, have genealogies; they are born, they get married, they have children, sometimes they change their names; and, sometimes, they die. All right, maybe that's too much anthropomorphism, but there certainly is an evolutionary process associated with street names.
- Birth: a street is usually named through a resolution by the City Council. The pathway to the resolution itself can be highly varied; in the case of Solano Canyon, many of the names were determined by Alfredo Solano, son of the founders of the Canyon, and who surveyed the land.
- Marriage: sometimes, streets are combined; in this case, one name usually disappears (see Death, below).
- Children: what springs up along a street? Houses, businesses, parks, apartment buildings. These things usually owe their existence to the access provided by the street.
- Name Change: This one is simple and straightforward; like Marriage.
- Death: Streets sometimes are obliterated altogether; other times, they are incorporated into other streets, and the original name disappears.
This page is dedicated to providing the genealogies of the names of the streets in Solano Canyon. We hope you enjoy the ride!
