It is a fact that Rosa Casanova was born in Costa Rica. It is also a fact that Francisco Solano was born in Costa Rica. It is a further fact that Rosa and Francisco were married in Los Angeles, California. It is family tradition—and extremely likely, although unproved—that Francisco Solano traveled to California with the Casanova family. What is not known is how the Casanova family and Francisco Solano first came into contact. The migration from Costa Rica to California took place between November 1847, when María Téodora was born in San José, Costa Rica, and March 1850, when Antonio Casanova died in Los Angeles County, California.
